Technology: Application and Instruction
Blessed Trinity School recognizes the importance of incorporating modern technology into all areas of curriculum to ensure that our students will be prepared, enthusiastic and productive members of their world community.
Our classrooms are equiped with Promethean Interactive Whiteboards in all classrooms, grades K-8 as well as multiple computers for student use. Each teacher is provided a laptop computer. We have two fully functioning computer labs featuring thirty computers. Specialized computer classes are taught twice a week for grades 6-8 and once a week for grades K-5. Open computer lab time is also available so that teachers may integrate technology into their instruction. Access to the Internet is available for independent research and time is allotted for Accelerated Reader testing. Students also use a variety of educational websites to further enhance core curriculum, as well as computer knowledge and applications.
All students receive instruction appropriate for their grade level and the curriculum includes the following objectives:
- Students have an understanding of basic technology operations and concepts. This includes being able to navigate networked environments and selecting technology for specific purposes.
- Students are able to use technology responsibly and ethically. This includes the responsible use of technology systems, information and software.
- Students have an understanding of ethical, cultural, environmental, and societal implications of telecommunications.
- Students use technology to communicate effectively and creatively. This is done through developing keyboarding skills and using a variety of media and formats to communicate information and ideas effectively. (MS PowerPoint, MS Publisher, digital cameras, etc.)
- Students create, produce, and present ideas in variety of forms, including text, photograph/picture files, and video clips.
- Students use technology for thinking, learning and producing. This is done to enhance content area learning with technology-infused lessons by combining internet research with Science, Language Arts, and History and Religion curriculums.
- Students are provided with a variety of tools to produce quality products such as digital cameras, scanners, laptops, LCD projector, and Alpha Smarts.
- Students demonstrate an understanding of intellectual property and copyright law by properly crediting work. (All students and parents required to sign an Acceptable Use Policy)
- Students learn how to care for and safely operate technological equipment.
