Blessed Trinity Band, F.A.Q.s
What instruments are in the Band?
The Band is made up of Woodwind, brass and Percussion instruments. The woodwind instruments are the Flute, Clarinet, Oboe*, Bassoon*, and Saxophone. The Brass instruments are Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, and Tuba. A student selected to play the percussion instruments must play all of the instruments, which include, but are not limited to Xylophone, Bells, Triangle, Tambourine, Gong, Snare Drum, Bass Drum, and Cymbals.
I do not have any music experience, can I still join Band?
No previous experience is required to join Band. Everything is taught from the beginning, from how to read music, assembly and care of the instrument, and how to play the instrument. Should a student ever need extra help, I am more than willing to meet with students outside of class or set up individual lessons with the students.
How do I know what instrument I should play/ How are instruments selected?
At the beginning of each year we will have instrument "fittings". During this time students will be able to try out all of the instruments so that we can place each student on an instrument where they will be the most successful. Some of the factors that go into deciding which instrument a student should play are the embouchure (formation of the lips and teeth), rhythmic coordination (percussion instruments), student interest, and the needs of the Band. The music written for modern Band requires a certain instrumentation to be performed properly. A group of saxophones and drums is not a band. While every effort will be made to place each student in one of their top choices of instrument, it is not always possible. All decisions in regards to the instrumentation of the Band will be made by the director and are final.
When does Band meet?
Band meets during the school day with a few after-school rehearsals before performances.
Can I be in the Band and play sport?
Yes. We want all of our students to be well rounded. Playing sports or involvement in other clubs does not prevent a student from participation in Band. When scheduling conflicts occur, solutions will be worked out on an individual basis.
Are there fees for the Band?
Yes, the fee amount depends on the student's year in band. Students requiring financial assistance may apply for scholarships.
